AURELIA
Form & Silhouette

In the school project Atelier, the focus was on experimenting with form and silhouette, stepping away from traditional garment design. The aim was to further develop as a designer by concentrating on form exploration and discovering new approaches to creation.
We were challenged to translate 2D collages into 3D creations, starting on a 1:4 scale mannequin, which allowed for experimentation with proportions and volume. These ideas were then developed on a full-size dress form, where we used draping techniques to bring the shapes to life and translate them into patterns.
This process encouraged an explorative and experimental design approach and contributed to developing a personal style in which form and silhouette play a central role.

TECHNICAL DRAWING

NATURAL DYE
For the creation of my design, I chose to work exclusively with materials I already had at home, in order to develop something new in a sustainable way. In addition, the material had to be 100% natural, making it suitable for natural dyeing.
An important aspect of the project was hand-dyeing the fabric using natural dyes. Various sources could be used for this process, such as berries, flowers, fruit, and herbs. I chose to dye the fabric by hand with turmeric, which gave it a deep yellow, almost golden hue that perfectly complemented my design.
PRINT
As an addition to the design, we had to choose between different techniques: material manipulation or print. I chose to create my own print by hand-carving shapes from linoleum. This process resulted in an organic stamp, which allowed me to create a seamless, continuous pattern as the shapes naturally flowed into one another.
